Yoni Magic™ – Affirming the root of Feminine Power through Art, Creativity, Healing and Transformation
I have been searching, for sometime now, for a name or a concept that really sums up the message that underpins all my work. My paintings, products such as my Goddess Power Statement cards, Goddess Wisdom books (The Art of Birth book) and my Transformational therapy/coaching work all invite you to affirm the root of your Feminine power.
I have been on a journey to rediscover the Source of a woman’s power, the feminine spirit, which thrived in the more female oriented cultures, only to be superseded by the patriarchal way of life. I have been pondering on how women can retain the true nature of their gender while navigating our masculine driven world. My true desire is for women to become integrated in self knowledge, acceptance and love. I believes this integration can happen when women live in choice, respecting their body and mind and pleasurably celebrate their life. My art explores the divine Feminine, sacred sexuality, cycles, birth as a rite of passage, and our intuitive, creative expression.
These themes are symbolically portrayed in different ways, including the Spiral, Lotus flower and Divine Source™. ‘Alex is renowned for her beautiful Divine Source™ paintings, use of tactile media and the infamous Pink Tent Installation’. Every painting is a unique meditative process which allows the feminine to express herself.
This journey has culminated in the very powerful name YONI MAGIC™ which for me encapsulates the integrated power of Feminine!
Yoni, as you may know, is a Sanskrit word translated as origin, source, womb, vulva. It is probably the most respectful word available for the vulva (Lat., female genitals, womb) but for some reason we have adopted vagina (Lat., sheath) to describe what I call a woman’s Divine Source™. Yoni conjures a more accurate picture of the powerful system of pleasure, rhythmical cycles, reproduction and intuitive inner wisdom that is unique to the Feminine. However, female sexuality has often been shamed and suppressed despite its paramount importance in the creation of new life. As my interest has been empowering women to trust their body wisdom, especially in preparation for birth, the word Yoni really symbolises (for me) the powerful potential in every woman if we remember to harness our intuitive Yoni wisdom. The Yoni really is the divine source of the feminine spirit and where a woman holds her natural power. It transcends genitalia to describe the ‘source of all’.
‘The term yoni heralds from a culture and religion in which women have long been regarded and honoured as the embodiment of divine female energy – the goddess known as Shakti – and where the female genitals were/are seen as a sacred symbol of the Great Goddess. Because Tantric’s and others worship the Divine in the form of a Goddess, the term Yoni has also acquired other, more cosmic meanings, becoming a symbol of the Universal Womb, the Matrix of Generation and Source of All.’ (R. Although my work is a celebration of the Feminine principle, I also support men on their own unique journey to honour their masculine power in a safe and healthy way. By empowering ourselves to be true to who we are, whether woman or man, we can live side by side in peace and harmony because we mutually respect and love each others difference. I like portraying these kinds of images in my art of the masculine and feminine complementing one another. Mars and Venus can be independent AND connected 😉
