Sculpture

Mother & Child

The glass sculpture is a social critique on how pregnancy and birth is currently so transparent, due to medical intrusion, that it is losing its sacred mystery.  The pregnant woman’s body is being controlled by a predominantly male medical profession who are relinquishing her intuition about her body’s inherent natural process.  Science is Natures slave, useful but not in charge.  It also shows, on a psychological and personal level, how the cracks of our life experiences are engraved on our body and psyche and is part of what we transfer onto our children.  If we learn to understand the journey of these cracks, they will become a personal map – imperfect and beautiful – not a broken self to be discarded.
