What Makes Bali Special

As soon as you arrive and step on the island of the gods/goddesses, you know this land has its own soul. It’s more than a place; it’s a mood, an aspiration, a tropical state of mind where fresh ideas arrive like waves and inspiration is everywhere.

It’s rich culture, abundant nature, many amazing sights and truly lovely people are what makes Bali so special.

The diverse culture and Hindu religion of Bali play a vital role in the everyday life of both locals and visitors. From the exquisite flower offerings placed everywhere to the endless temple ceremonies. Everything has spiritual meaning on the island.

Bali is a magnet for creative people from all over the world, the best handcrafts, designs, clothes, furniture, and interior pieces can be found throughout the whole island.

Being one of those glorious destinations it is generally great to visit at any time of the year, you will enjoy this vibrant island despite any weather.

Bali – A Spiritual Island

The Balinese spiritual philosophy seeks to maintain a balance between the polarities of “good” and “evil” (light/dark, outer/inner etc) by daily rituals and offerings (although it is much more complex) creating beauty at every turn.

Nyepi – Balinese New Year

Nyepi – the Balinese new year – is celebrated on an auspicious date every March, according to the Balinese calendar. Nyepi is a “Day of Silence” where all activities pause for the whole day allowing for self-reflection and spiritual contemplation. On Nyepi eve, every village and town has a riotous, colourful, giant monster parade in order to vanquish the negative elements and create a balance with the Creator, Humankind, and Nature. On Nyepi day, there is no internet (allowing you a social media fast!), no cars and no outside lights and for one very special evening in the year, if it’s clear, the inky sky glitters with a thousand stars with no light pollution.

What Makes This Retreat Special

The island of Bali is a perfect place to transition from your old self to your new self. Together you will immerse yourself into the power of the jungle, discover ancient, mysterious water purification ceremonies, and activate health within the body.

You will feel renewed, pure at the level of the soul and much more spiritually connected.

This is a unique opportunity to make a pilgrimage to the sacred sights of the island that is still keeping the traditions alive. You will fall in love with this magical island and its unique rich culture.

In this magical place, you are invited to celebrate your creative self through the senses and the different pleasure centres of yourself: physical, mental, emotional, sensual, spiritual and transformational. We will explore these through Balinese rituals, cooking, sensual treatments to keep you looking young, visit sacred sites, experience a traditional Balinese home (my family), gastronomic food, and the powerful celebration of Nyepi. This will allow you to go deep within yourself to discover a more peaceful way of being, de-stress and enjoy the blue sky and sun on the island of the gods / goddess! Relaxxxx…. I have it all figured out <3

Important Information

Getting there

Nearest major airport: I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, Denpasar, also known as Denpasar International Airport (DPS)

It takes around 1.5 hours to get to Ubud from the airport.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance is compulsory and always a good idea! Depending on the policy you go for, it could help with delayed, canceled or missed flights; theft or damage of belongings, and emergency healthcare.

It’s not the most glamorous part of planning a trip, but it means you can relax knowing that you’ll be covered if anything happens.

*Check your travel insurance for its Covid policy.

Visa

If you intend to stay in Bali for 30 days or less, residents of 169 countries (including the U.S. UK and Australia http://topbali.com/indonesia-visa/) may now enter on a free 30 day visa on arrival (VOA).

If you plan on staying in Bali for 31 to 60 days, DO NOT opt for the free 30 day VOA, as it cannot be extended. Instead, purchase the $35 USD Visa on Arrival at the immigration counter at Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport, which can be extended for a stay not to exceed 60 days.

The 60 day VOA is not equal to 2 months. The day you arrive counts as day 1, so avoid any trouble by counting your days correctly! The fee for overstaying your Visa is a steep 300,000 IDR per day.

Accommodation

Check–in is 2pm, check–out is 12noon

The 40 spacious rooms are spread over two traditional compounds set in lush gardens, overlooking lily ponds and stone statues. The rooms feature four-poster beds, mosquito-nets, wooden shutters, carved doors, marbled floors and Javanese teak sofas.

Breakfast includes fresh tropical fruit, house-made yoghurt and granola, warm freshly baked pastries and bread from The Honeymoon Bakery, as well as, Balinese specialties and other modern fare.

Mosquito nets and repellant coils, daily housekeeping, bar fridge replenished daily, tea, coffee and two flasks of boiling water, water dispenser and front patio with table and chairs are provided for your comfort.

All rooms offer the following

Mosquito nets and repellant coils
Daily housekeeping
Bar fridge, replenished daily
Tea, coffee and two flasks of boiling water a day
Water dispenser and front patio with table and chairs.

Additional Information

Weather

Daytime temperatures in Bali in April can reach a max of 31°C (possibly 28°C in Ubud) with very high heat and humidity, falling to 24°C at night. There are usually 17 days with some rainfall but these are usually temporary showers.

Money

Currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR)

There are many ATM cashpoints and money changers all around town so no need to worry about changing money before you travel.

Electricity

The standard used in Bali is a two-pin plug (round):

  • Voltage: 230 V.
  • Frequency: 50 Hz.
  • Power sockets: type C / F.

You will need to buy an adapter before you travel, however you can also buy in Bali.

What to bring

Besides the basic packing and travel needs, here are a few things to think about bringing with you.

  • Shorts, singlet, sundress (no need for leggings)
  • Bathing suit (pool, spa)
  • Yoga clothes
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Mosquito/bug spray
  • Sunscreen
  • Hat
  • Plug adaptors/converters/chargers
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Journal
  • Empty suitcase for purchases!

*Please note that yoga mats will be provided

Vaccinations requirements

Bali is much more developed than most regions in Indonesia and the main tourism areas match international standards when it comes to hygiene.

If you plan to travel to other areas in Indonesia or venture out for a longer period into the more remote areas of Bali, then a more careful approach is recommended.

Because vaccines need to be taken before arriving at your holiday destination you need to plan your vaccine strategy 4-8 weeks before scheduled departure.

Location

Ubud is situated in-land, north of Denpasar airport and about 1.5 hour drive by taxi. It is a vibrant town full of everything you can imagine, surrounded by nature and beautiful rice fields.

Surrounding area

Town
Nature
Forest
Jungle
